Right or Happy: It's Your Choice

What matters most to you: to be right or to be happy? Sometimes is comes down to a choice. Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

Does this sound familiar? You've told someone that they are wrong about something, because you know you are right due to specific experience, so you warn them against the impending doom. You also know that their actions will personally affect you negatively as well, but you are glad to see them struggle, because you are RIGHT. The problem with this scenario, after all was said and done, is that now you are right, but not happy.

Some people will say, "But maybe being right makes you happy!" Well, you must search deep within and ask yourself how you truly feel after the fact. Yes, being right may make you temporarily happy, but after that fleeting triumph, you're still left with an unpleasant situation, and truly, you are not happy.

One of the most profoundly complex yet undeniably simple laws of the universe is the law of free will. You actually do have the power of choice in your life. Every thought is a choice you choose to think. So when you think in terms of "right" or "wrong," it really comes from how you are thinking about it. You can choose to change that thinking around.

When being right is more important to you, then you have the overwhelming urge to say, "I told you so!" Your choice is to hold on to being right, not happy. But what if you gave it some thought and made another choice? What if your choice was to be happy, and let being right go? It would mean that your conscious choice would be to step back from the attachment of being right, let it be OK that your "right" advice is not heeded, and move into being happy and at peace.

It's your choice. Being happy is one of life's great pleasures --- a natural gift, really. Whether or not you choose to use it is up to you.
